Valtellina, Italy
Our Story
Founded in 1919 by Pietro Plozza, Plozza Vini epitomizes the essence of heroic winemaking in the Valtellina region, where steep hillsides are adorned with tiny terraces supported by over 2,500 km of dry stone walls. This labor-intensive viticulture under the Alpine sun is a source of immense pride for Plozza's harvesters, who consider their work nothing short of heroic. With one foot in Italy and another in Switzerland, the journey of Plozza Vini begins as Pietro Plozza, then a 29-year-old Rhaetian Railway employee, rolled a 50-liter wine barrel to Tiefencastel station, aiming to sell wine by the liter to local establishments. Over the years, Plozza expanded its presence with wineries in Brusio and Tirano, culminating in the establishment of Plozza SA Brusio in 1973. Today, Plozza Vini continues its legacy of innovation, renowned for wines that reflect the unique terroir of the Valtellina—rich, spicy, robust, yet elegantly balanced, crafted with meticulous care by skilled vineyard and cellar workers.
